Cylinder

Identifying cylinders in the environment

Group Activity 4

In groups of five:

  1. Take a rectangular piece of paper. Without moving the ruler, draw two dotted lines using both edges of the ruler.
  1. Roll the paper to form a round object. Make sure each dotted line falls on itself.
  2. Apply glue to one of the longer side and stick the paper.
  3. Name objects in the environment that look like the rolled paper.
  4. Name parts of the flat paper that formed the:
    1. height,
    2. circular edges of the rolled paper.
  5. Discuss uses of objects that look like the rolled paper in the environment.

Note

  1. The rolled paper is the shape of a cylinder.
  2. A cylinder has two circular surfaces and a round or curved surface.
  3. The two circular surfaces are equal in size.
