Creating number patterns involving addition
Group Activity 6
In groups:
- Write a number less than 100.
- Add 100 to the number.
- Add 100 to the sum.
- Continue to add 100 to the sum in each step to get the first 10 numbers.
- Make a list of the 10 numbers formed.
- Discuss the pattern of numbers made.
- Share your results with other groups.
Note
To make a pattern of numbers involving addition, continue adding the same number.
Example 6
A tray holds 30 eggs. Make a pattern of the number of eggs in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 trays.
- Number of eggs in one tray is 30
- Number of eggs in two trays is 30 + 30 = 60
- Number of eggs in three trays is 60 + 30 = 90
- Number of eggs in four trays is 90 + 30 = 120
- Number of eggs in five trays is 120 + 30 = 150
- Number of eggs in six crates is 150 + 30 = 180
The pattern is 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180.
Exercise F
