Reading and writing numbers up to 500 000 in symbols

In pairs:

  1. Write a 6-digit number less than 500 000.
  2. Read the number by relating each digit to its place value.
  3. Discuss and share with other groups.

Example 2

Read and write the number 1 hundred thousands 9 ten thousands 6 thousands 1 hundred 2 tens 5 ones.
  • 1 hundred thousands 9 ten thousands 6 thousands 1 hundred 2 tens 5 ones is 196 125.
  • 196 125 is read as One hundred ninety six thousand one hundred and twenty five.
