Group Activity 1
To divide 72 by 12.
In pairs:
- List multiples of 12 up to a number slightly greater than 72.
- Find a number that multiplies by 12 to get 72.
- Discuss the results and share with other groups.
Note
The number obtained is the quotient.
72 is the dividend.
12 is the divisor.
Example 1
Work out:
a) 99 ÷ 11
99 ÷ 11 = 9
b) 78 ÷ 14
78 ÷ 4 = 5 rem 8
or
78 – 14 = 64
64 – 14 = 50
50 – 14 = 36
36 – 14 = 22
22 – 14 = 8
14 is subtracted
