Group Activity 2

To divide a 3-digit number by up to a 2-digit number.

In pairs:

  1. Get cards with digits 0 to 9.
  1. Take any 3 cards. Form a 3-digit number using the cards.
  2. Take another card with a number except 0 and 1.
  3. Divide the 3-digit number by the 1-digit number.
  4. Discuss and share the results with other groups.
  5. Form other 3-digit numbers and divide by 2-digit numbers.

Example 2

There are 375 trees in a forest. The trees are planted in rows. Each row has 25 trees. How many rows are there?

Total number of trees is 375
​Number of trees in a row is 25
​Number of rows is 375 ÷ 25

375 ÷ 25 = 15
There are 15 rows.​

375 ÷ 25 = 12 + 3 =
=​ 15 rows
