Group Activity 1

In groups of four:

  1. Take four equal rectangular paper strips.
  2. Label the first strip one whole as shown.
  1. Fold the second paper strip into two equal parts along the length to get halves.
  1. Fold the third paper into four equal parts to get quarters.
  1. Fold the fourth paper into eight equal parts to get eighths.
  1. Glue the four paper strips on a manila paper to form a fraction chart as shown.
  2. Discuss and share with other groups.

12=24, 12=48

The fractions 24 and 48 are equivalent fractions of 12.

12=1×22×2=24;  12=1×42×4=48

Example 1

Find two equivalent fractions of 34.

34=3×24×2=68

34=3×34×3=912
