Chapter 12.5 (Mathematics 5)

Multiplication of Grams and Kilograms

Multiplication of grams and kilograms by whole numbers

Multiply 4 kg 320 g by 3.

In groups of four:

  1. Arrange the multiplication in a vertical form.
  2. Multiply the grams by 3.
  3. Multiply the kilograms by 3.

kg g 4 320 × 3

  1. Discuss the results in your group and share with other groups.

Example 7a

Work out 5 kg 160 g × 5

kg g 5 160 × 5 25 800

Example 7b

Work out 12 kg 320 g × 7

kg g 12 320 × 7 86 240

  1. 320 × 7 = 2 240 g
  2. 2 240 g = 2 kg 240 g
  3. 12 kg × 7 = 84 kg
  4. Add
    84 kg + 2 kg = 86 kg

Exercise L

a) kg g 7 25 × 3

b) kg g 36 50 × 5

c) kg g 120 125 × 8

If the answer is 0, leave the gap blank.

a) kg g 15 150 × 9

b) kg g 38 250 × 10

c) kg g 165 420 × 16

  1. 47 kg 50 g × 7 =

 kg  g

  1. 144 kg 260 g × 6 =

 kg  g

  1. 46 kg 416 kg × 8 =

 kg  g

  1. 350 kg 436 g × 4 =

 kg  g
