In groups of five, discuss the following:
- Who pays salaries for government employees such as teachers, doctors, police and judges?
- Who pays for construction of roads, dams, government offices, hospitals and schools?
- Who pays for medicine, hospital equipment, school books and free primary education?
- Where does the government get money to pay for public services?
- Share your findings with other groups.
Note
The amount of money paid to the government so that it can pay for public services is called tax.

- Write five services which the government provides and pays for from the taxes it collects.
- Discuss the importance of the services you have written.
